History of the UCLA Medical Alumi Association
The UCLA Medical Alumni Association (MAA) was established in 1986 and is a volunteer-driven organization. Its mission is to advance the cause of medical education, contribute to the excellence of the medical school, and encourage fellowship among its lifetime members, which include all School of Medicine M.D. and Ph.D. graduates, current and past interns and residents, faculty members, and emeriti faculty.
The MAA offers a vital source of support and involvement for alumni and faculty through Reunion Weekend, local gatherings, and regional events. The MAA provides unique student interaction for its members by offering opportunities to serve as mentors, hosts for specialty mixers, and panelists for the annual Conference on Career Choices in Medicine.
Providing financial assistance to medical students is a priority for the MAA. The Alumni Class Scholarship Campaign encourages each class to raise $100,000 and create an endowed scholarship fund. Once the goal has been reached, the class scholarship is awarded annually to a current medical student.
